The legend that is Walk Kowalski

The legend that is Walt Kowalski

i watched the film gran torino last night with some of the guys and we all loved it. it really did bring up alot of issues that i find hard to ignore with contemporary society. the most striking one is the way in which we treat our parents when they get old. it has become totally ok to ship them off to an old people’s home; something that i would never dream of doing. fine, i am saying this probably as a result of a muslim upbringing but i would like to think that these are standard human values. the way walt (clint’s character)’s sons deal with him in his old age is quite sickening but at the same time, i reckon its typical of alot of families nowadays, especially over here in the developed world. its a real shame that after all that our parents do for us, let alone the pain our mother’s go through in bringing us into this world, we can’t treat them with the respect that they deserve. they are our parents; not pets that you get one xmas and then get sick of. their love is what moulds us, even if its difficult to see sometimes. call me a traditionalist but it really gets to me and i think we all need to look after our parents, especially when they get old, and show them respect and obedience; that is their right.

I leave you with a saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). When asked about the major sins, he said:

Associating anyone with God, disobedience to parents, killing a person and false utterance.

Great words mashaallah! and totally agree with you..its actually sad to see that indeed what was shown is a reality and they are indeed jus treated as old annoying ppl whom ppl cant be bothered with..such a shame to see their own flesh and blood treat the ppl who have nothing but love for them in such a way..

Hear hear to your words my fellow chap..
